Desktop Crew

License terms

For Desktop Crew 1.0. Effective:

By installing, using or buying Desktop Crew, you agree to them. Sections 13 to 15 limit what we promise; please read them.

1. Who this is between

These terms are between you and SynthCORP LLC, Series N: Desktop Crew, a series of SynthCORP LLC, a Utah limited liability company in Woods Cross, Utah, USA ("we" or "us"). If you buy on this site, you buy Desktop Crew from us, and Link (Sold through Link, LLC, a Stripe company) is the merchant of record for the payment: it runs the checkout, charges any tax and sends your receipt, under Link's purchase terms. These terms cover the app. If you get Desktop Crew on Steam, Steam's terms apply as well.

2. What you get

A personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to install and use Desktop Crew, for you and the people you live with, on computers you use.

3. Editions, the trial and the price

4. License keys

A key is a signed note that the app checks on your computer only. There is no activation server and no online check. You can reinstall, move to a new PC or replace hardware and enter the same key again, and the app works fully offline. Keep your key to yourself (section 7).

5. Refunds

Bought on this site: all sales are final, except as described in the refund policy (a double charge, a copy that won't run as described that we can't fix, or a right to cancel under the law where you live). A refund ends your license for the full crew; the free lite crew stays yours. Bought on Steam: Steam's refund policy applies.

6. What stays ours

Desktop Crew's code, characters, names, writing, pictures and animation, and the way they are chosen and put together, belong to us or the people we license them from, to the extent the law protects them. You may not resell, rent, redistribute or sublicense Desktop Crew, or reverse-engineer it to make a competing product, except where the law lets you do so anyway. The agent hook in the app's agent-hook folder is under the MIT License, and you may do what that license allows with that part.

7. Sharing, streaming and videos

Don't share your license key or the paid installer publicly or with people outside your household. You may stream, record and post videos and screenshots of the crew anywhere, including on channels that earn money.

8. Things you make

Photos, clips and crew cards you take are yours. The crew characters in them stay ours, and you may share those pictures and clips as section 7 allows. Nothing you make is sent to us, and we claim no rights in it.

9. Your wallpaper

Desktop Crew changes your Windows wallpaper only if you turn on wallpaper mode. Before the first change it backs up your wallpaper settings and a copy of your wallpaper pictures in the app's data folder, and it puts your wallpaper back when you turn the mode off, when you quit, at the next start after a crash, and when you uninstall. It refuses to start, and changes nothing, if your wallpaper is a slideshow, Windows Spotlight, or tiled or spanned. The backup copies stay in the app's data folder until you delete them. If your wallpaper ever doesn't come back, the support page shows how to restore it from the backup.

10. Start with Windows

The installed copy from this site starts with Windows by default, so the crew is there each morning. You can turn this off in the tray (More > Start with Windows). The uninstaller removes the startup entry.

11. How the art was made

The crew's pictures, poses and animation, the monthly build art and the store art were made with AI image and video tools, most of them run on our own computer; the full-screen world paintings were made with a hosted AI image service. All of it was then chosen, edited, put together and reviewed by a person. No AI model ships with the app; only the finished pictures do. The tools and their licenses are listed in THIRD_PARTY_NOTICES.md, next to the program in its install folder.

12. Privacy

See the privacy policy. In short: no accounts, no tracking, no telemetry. The app contacts MET Norway for weather only after you pick a town, and Twitch only if you turn on Streamer mode with a channel.

13. No warranty

14. Limits on our liability

15. Rights the law gives you

Some places don't allow some of the exclusions and limits in sections 13 and 14, so they may not apply to you. If you're a consumer, you keep every right that the law where you live gives you and that can't be waived. For example, in the EU and the UK you keep your rights when digital content isn't as described, of satisfactory quality or fit for purpose, and when it damages your device because we didn't take reasonable care. Nothing in these terms waives a right the law says can't be waived.

16. Other people's names and data

Claude Code is a trademark of Anthropic, and Codex is a trademark of OpenAI. Desktop Crew only watches their session files on your computer, for compatibility, and is not affiliated with or endorsed by either. Weather data comes from MET Norway (NLOD 2.0 and CC BY 4.0). The town list comes from GeoNames (CC BY 4.0). Other software licenses are in THIRD_PARTY_NOTICES.md, next to the program in its install folder.

17. If these terms end

Your license for the full crew ends if you get a refund, or if you seriously break these terms (for example, by posting your key publicly). Sections 6, 13, 14, 15 and 18 still apply after that.

18. Which law applies, and disagreements

The laws of the State of Utah, USA, apply to these terms, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. If something goes wrong, please write to us first: most things can be fixed by email. Any claim may be brought in the state or federal courts located in Utah. If you're a consumer who lives somewhere else, you may also bring a claim in the courts where you live, and you keep the protection of the consumer laws there.

19. Changes

If these terms change, the new version applies to new versions of Desktop Crew and carries a new effective date. The version you have keeps the terms it came with.
